How This Calculator Works & Mathematical Formula

Standard FFMI Equation:

FFMI = Lean Body Mass (kg) / [Height (m)]²

Height-Normalized FFMI (Kouri et al., 1995):

Normalized FFMI = FFMI + 6.1 × [1.8 - Height (m)]

The normalization factor adjusts for the allometric scaling artifact where taller individuals naturally exhibit higher raw FFMI.

Elite natural athletes with exceptional bone structure (thick wrists, ankles, and clavicles) can occasionally achieve normalized FFMIs between 25.0 and 26.0.
